To celebrate Women’s History Month, here are three inspirational stories from the Idealist Careers archives. Learn more about these strong women and how each successfully navigated a career switch to land a role that is well-aligned with her values while also offering room for personal and professional growth.

Morgan Dorsch, Development Associate, Hazon

Pro Tip: Hazon is hiring! See what they're looking for on Idealist.org

Morgan's advice: "Morgan’s advice to job seekers: There are a lot of job descriptions that have software requirements. If you don’t know the software, you shouldn’t write off that job entirely. Find someone in your network who knows that software or computer skills and ask them to teach you, so you can say that you know how to use it."

Connie Lewin, Director of Strategy, Sustainable Health Enterprises

Connie’s experience: "One challenge that I think might happen especially for any career switcher that is still at their current job is just finding time to do the job search. So when I came to Idealist I really came just for knowledge, I just wanted to learn. I wanted to learn about organizations that existed within the sector, and more importantly I wanted to learn about the skills that I needed because I was a career switcher."

Alice Longworth, Communications Coordinator, First Baptist Church of White Plains

Alice’s advice to job seekers: "While money was an issue, I still had some flexibility in that I don’t have children in college, grandchildren, or aging parents to care for. It’s hard for older folks who have a lot of financial obligations to do some of the things I did. That being said, my advice would be to persist...Think about going back to school. Volunteering. Informational interviewing. Think you might be happy in a particular career? Talk to people already in it."
