Nonprofit jobs that don’t require a college degree

Diploma job

One of my favorite parts about working at Idealist is hearing the stories of the people changing, improving, and caring for our world. Each path is always full of texture; there are unexpected roadblocks along with strokes of good luck, organizations borne out of past personal experiences and ones inspired by fortuitous conversations. I’ve heard about people who have spent their whole lives working toward their current job of justice, and people who change their whole lives to embark on an entirely new mission.

If there is one common theme, it’s that there is no set recipe for bettering the world. With that in mind, today we’re highlighting jobs that don’t require a college degree.

If you’re a people person, this Outreach Coordinator/Guest Liaison position at Paul’s Place, Inc. in Baltimore, MD might be perfect! Build relationships with neighborhood residents, community organizations, and local government authorities to help further the mission and influence of Paul’s Place. They’re looking for candidates with a high school diploma or GED.

Similarly, in Philadelphia, PA, Point Breeze Organizing Committee is hiring a Community Organizer to assist with grassroots organizing efforts in South Philadelphia. If you are passionate about social justice and tackling the issues of racism and class inequalities, and you have a few years of organizing experience in these realms, this job may be a great fit.

For a more intense people-position, The AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts needs a Client Advocate to provide services and support for those living with HIV/AIDS. They prefer bilingual candidates and require either a B.A. or two years of experiences in human services and/or case management.

Do you love health, education, and kids? SCO Family of Services in Brooklyn, NY is hiring a Family Life-Activity Specialist for Sports & Healthy Living! They’re looking for people (especially those who are bilingual!) with experience facilitating creative educational youth activities and who will be committed to working on the success of their program.

For those of you with an inner Lorax, The Nature Conservancy is hiring a Conservation Assistant in Des Moines, IA to provide administrative and program support, as well as work on events and other office duties. They’re looking for candidates with associate’s degrees, technical education, or two years of equivalent experience.

Perhaps your calling is in numbers? If you have an associates degree in accounting, you can join the fight against cancer with this Finance Assistant position at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in Los Angeles, CA.

Dedicated to doubling lung cancer survival, Free to Breathe seeks a Programs Coordinator to join them in Madison, WI. If you have two-five years of experience in volunteer engagement and management, you could be a strong candidate!

Don’t see anything that speaks to you? We have over 3,500 jobs worldwide that don’t require a college degree, so your options abound! Just remember: you write your own path. (And then remember: once you’ve written it, write to us and tell us all about it 🙂 Best of luck!)
